Hertfordshire was originally the area assigned to a fortress constructed at Hertford under the rule of Edward the Elder in 913. The name Hertfordshire appears in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 1011.

By Air Nearest AirportsLuton 20 miles.Heathrow 24 miles.By Rail Nearest StationWatford Junction 3 miles.By Road From the M1 Leave the M1 at Junction 5 for the A41. Take the second exit at the roundabout and straight over the next one. There is a public house named The Toby Carvery on the left the hotel is approximately 1 mile past the pub on the left. From the M25 Dartford Tunnel Take Junction 21a for the M1 south and follow above instructions . From the M25 Heathrow Take Junction 19 for A41. Follow the signs for the A41 London. At the roundabout with a Shell garage and Sainsbury's go straight over. Go through two sets of traffic lights and straight over the next roundabout. The hotel is approximately a mile past the pub on the roundabout on the left hand side.
