Hertfordshire was originally the area assigned to a fortress constructed at Hertford under the rule of Edward the Elder in 913. The name Hertfordshire appears in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 1011.

By train 20 minutes from London Euston to Watford Junction which also has key mainline train services to Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly. Watford Station is served by the London Underground Metropolitan line . Transfer time by road from Watford to The Grove aproximately 10 minutes. Chiltern Railways operate a service from London Marylebone to Rickmansworth station. Transfer by road from the station to The Grove approximately 15 minutes.
